My name is Amanda Kalnins and I am disabled. I have Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I have been living with these illness' since I was 15 years old and have only gotten worse over the years. I am now 32 years old, married, and despite all of that I have tried to continue being as active as possible. In the last couple of years I have begun navigating the world with a wheelchair.
For the first couple of years I have been using a manual push wheelchair and then this year I upgraded to an electric. It has been such a huge thing for me moving from manual push to electric. It has given me such a sense of freedom that I didn't have before. With this new freedoms it has lead me to wanting to get out and do more than ever and all of it has opened my eyes to a lot things. The biggest being how to navigate through different areas and go on adventures with a wheelchair. Which lead me here. While I was trying to figure out how to navigate through different areas I found the information a little lacking. Most of the time it simply said, "Location Accessible". Since I had no idea what that meant I spent a lot of time doing research and expelling energy that could have been used towards the activity itself. I decided that this was information I really wanted to share and at the very least log. So I will be here blogging about my different activities, recording videos of me navigating through areas, and generally enjoying my new freedoms. I hope that you will join me along on this adventure as I learn to explore various destinations with a disability. |
